	<title>Optical Scientist - Biometric Products</title>

	<link>http://www.photonicsjobs.com/Jobs/detail.cfm?Job_id=5363</link>

<description>Reporting to the VP of Advanced Technology, the Scientist position will be required to work with senior scientists and engineers to assist with improvement of existing products, and the development of new products. The work will be mostly for AOptix iris biometrics products. The scientist will be expected to take high level problems and questions, and then collaboratively formulate a systematic strategy of experiments and measurements to develop a detailed understanding, leading to solutions and answers.

The position will require a working knowledge of the scientific method, together with a capability to perform detailed data analysis using Matlab, Scilab, IDL or similar data manipulation software. The end result of the analysis should be a clear presentation of the findings and their reliability, together with recommendations and observations. The primary audience will be engineers and management who will be using your findings to guide product development decisions. The workload will be biased towards image and signal processing, so a familiarity with Fourier techniques and associated mathematics will be required. The position will require a significant amount of hands-on data collection using AOptix biometrics products and other instrumentation. Ensuring data integrity and analysis of the collected data will be an essential component of the work.

Additional responsibilities:

• Interface with software development team to realize algorithms in our product development environment.

• Interface with the rest of the engineering development team to ensure that hardware adequately supports the system imaging requirements.

• Assist and implement a product testing environment that will validate and quantify the system requirements.

• Participate in prosecution of Patent applications for critical IP.

• Participate in additional technology requirements.

• Participate in development of design concepts for future product development, as required by management.
